Serving.....

I believe, is a lost art. I work in the "service" world and quite frankly, the people I've watched suck at it. How do you TEACH adults to serve? It's darn hard, almost impossible, when all we think of is ourselves.

Some people have a gift, like my niece. She has in mind every one's favorite foods, colors, TV shows, songs, birthdays, and anniversaries and gets a thrill out of doing something to make those she loves smile. I hope she never loses this.

I have to be reminded that my inconvenience is not really that big of a deal. I can work five minutes longer to clean off a table, or put on a smile to make someone more comfortable, or just "forget" to complain about some one's lack of graces.

And, (my conviction) if I'm a serving mama, my kids will more likely pick it up too. If I'm a lazy self seeking mama.... lazy kids (unless you are really good at "making" your kids do something they don't want to and then when they don't have you looking over their shoulder...lazy kids.)  I believe that the character we teach our children is more valuable than the information we teach them. I'm NOT there yet, but I do believe serving is a worthy goal for any family to have.

  1. Thought of this verse when I read your writing about serving. Motivation is everything! And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17. Thanks for writing!
