About Hopscotch

When I thought it might be nice to school my kids at home, I had no idea what I was getting in to!

I love it.

Most days, in the midst of the chaos, I wonder why I would self inflict this impossible responsibility, but at night (the time of the day I write) I remember mostly the good things. I wouldn't change a thing. Except more money and more time. And a maid.

What I have discovered is that one of the beauties of learning at home is you can learn doing almost anything! Games, chores, crafts, meal times, conversations, afternoon drives, shopping, you name it! Learning is a way of life.

Hopscotch is a game that involves activity, coordination, counting, following rules, and is a fun as well. I believe learning is best when enjoyable.

We are continuously in the process of figuring out what works best in our family, and when we discover that something works, I like to share it just in case it might fit in another home as well. I am not just talking about homeschooling families! Responsibility, skills, character, work ethic, and other assets that can be taught at home will greatly improve any school experience!

We spin for "jobs". These jobs include a chef, waitress, nurse, meteorologist, astronomer, environmental worker, teacher's helper, and exercise instructor. This routine has helped the children think a little about careers, but also includes specific skill building and responsibility. And best of all...after a routine is established, it helps me out!
